Day Six: The Delightfully Engaging Bella Sophia

I came in that night with a plan. I was going to have a heart-to-heart with Janelle (I’d promised her we’d get a chance to sit down and really talk), hang around at the bar for a while, talk to Casey and Daisy, and see where life took me.

As ever, life failed to cooperate with the plan. But it’s the unexpected journeys that are usually the most interesting…

The bar was fairly quiet when I walked in the door. I was greeted by Bella Sophia, whom I’d seen the previous night. Then, she’d been wearing what she describes as her “Bondage Barbie” outfit. I’d seen something intriguing, though, in the way she’d sat there with her book. She looked tough, freespirited, keenly intelligent, and compellingly beautiful. She also had a very sexy strut. I looked at her then, regretting my half-asleep state, and wondered if I shouldn’t ask her to help me wake up.

I was put off then by two things. First, she’s a smoker. Which a lot of the ladies are. But smoke is something I’m fairly sensitive to, and I didn’t want to party with someone who smelled of it.

The second thing was something that’s not supposed to happen at a brothel. I looked at her, and I thought to myself, “that one is out of your league.”

Thing is, half asleep as I was that night, she was out of my league. No way was I prepared to keep up with this one in that state.

The following night, however, I was feeling more myself, and she was dressed in less intimidating clothing. Loose but sheer silk top and a denim miniskirt with a belt made of hearts. She greeted me with a smile and a, “Back again?”

I responded just as warmly, but looked around, distracted. Remember, I’d come in planning to see Janelle. I wanted to do that earlier in the night, so we’d have a better chance of having a good conversation.

Janelle wasn’t around, but Alex was, and I soon found myself sitting back and chatting comfortably with her. We spoke for probably a good hour, but then I remembered my mission. So, even though I was enjoying her company as much as ever, I asked if she’d seen Janelle around.

While Alex went back, I noticed that Bella had moved to a chair near me with her book. Somehow, though, my head was still stuck in that “out of your league” mode, so instead of talking to her, I just sat quietly and waited for Alex to come back. After a few minutes, I took out my book (I’d packed it in case I managed to get stuck in the same position as the previous night) and started to read.

“What are you reading?” asked a voice on my left.

And that was the start of the most interesting and engaging conversation I have had since leaving MIT campus. We started on favorite authors, found common ground in our reading material, drifted on to a deep and meandering philosophical discussion (nature vs nurture, the purpose of society, the mechanics of evolution, and a range of other topics), wandered along through a few more explicit topics, and found a shared sense of humor.

Unfortunately, I let my smoking hang-up keep me from asking her back, so, eventually, she pulled away to make herself more available.

I sat back, thinking things over, and was just starting to tell myself that I should go ask her back when someone else came over to talk to her. Eventually, he went back with Bella and Veronica, and I sat back, cursing myself for a fool.

I noticed it was 5 in the morning, and the rest of my plan called for me to head out and see Tahoe in the daylight (since I’d managed to move my schedule far enough to make that possible). I cursed myself again, since the timing would have worked out beautifully if I’d asked her then.

I calmed myself, and told myself firmly that I had the time to wait. Nothing would be open in Tahoe at dawn, and Bella had told me she’d be out working until 9. I could afford to wait. Really.

I was still quietly cursing myself when it happened. Negotiations broke down, and all three of them came back out into the bar. I moved out to an open area, caught Bella as soon as she was free, and took her back.

We had a fun little chat in the negotiations room. We talked and laughed and managed to get a little business done somewhere in there.

Then we adjourned to the Safari Room.

I’d kept it slow for my previous parties. Eased into things. Let myself get into it step by step. I’d told Bella, though, that I was looking for a change of pace, and that I was relying on her creativity to make it possible.

Let me just say… I chose right. Whew. Beauty, brains, humor, creativity, and… fire.

Ever since the previous night, I’d been a little afraid that Jenna had ruined me for the other ladies. Once you’ve found your ATF, where do you go from there?

I found my answer. You take a sharp left and you go on an adventure.

Well, okay. It was probably fairly tame for most, but for me, it was an adventure. And I know it was one we both enjoyed.

After the party, or perhaps continuing it, we sat and talked over dinner. The conversation was more lighthearted than the one we’d had back in the bar, but we were both riding high. We just kept it fun and went with the flow. Told jokes, touched briefly on philosophy, and drifted on to whatever else came to mind.

It was 10am before I walked out of the bar (with a last glance back at my mind-blowing companion), and I stepped out into the sunlight with a grin that just wouldn’t leave my face.
